fold an origami Hawaiian Shirt ( a short sleeved sport shirt).
There are many photos, so do a few stretches or go get a juice while it
loads.
This shirt was sent to me by my aunt. It had been a birthday card to
my uncle.
The back folds down, (the collar is actually a catch, a lock, that keeps
the origami from unfolding). The buttons are glued on but paper buttons
or even drawn ones look fine.
You can write a note and place it within the shirt.
This origami starts with a RECTANGLE, not the usual square. Plain copier
paper is fine and you can draw palm trees and other patterns on it! Gift
wrapping paper can sometimes be found that has a Hawaiian pattern look.
Elementary students have fun creating heads and arms or whole bodies
to go with the shirt! If you have a pattern for shorts...LET US KNOW!!!!!!
Fold in
half, then unfold
Fold side edges to the center crease.
Be neat!
Be sure fold
starts exactly
in the
bottom corners
and lines up neatly
along the side edge.
Then you can flip up the bottom
so the crease is exactly where the
flaps stop.
Stick you fingers inside the folded up area.
Grab hold of the tip of corner piece on one side.
Pull it out and to the side!
Don't mash it! There are crease lines
already where it is to fold...you made them when you folded the tips up.

Now TUCK IN the corner. (Not, tuck behind...the corner disappears
inside itself.)
The crease that it turns in on is
already there...see the dotted line?
Do both sides.
Your sleeves are done!
See how the model has been turned over?
Fold down about 1/4 inch of paper...that is about as wide as a crayon.
THEN TURN IT OVER AGAIN!!

Fold in the side like this so it touches the center line.
You will see the collar.
Make the other side meet the center at the exact same place
so the collar looks right.
THIS IS THE LAST STEP!
Fold up the bottom...TUCK UNDER
the collar and crease the bottom of the shirt.
Draw details. Add a tie if you want to be more formal.
Add a head ....cartoon style...or a caricature of someone you know.
Find heads in a magazine...
Design the rest of the outfit!
Write a note to put inside if it is a card.
Remember, your first one is usually lumpy.
Learn from your mistakes and the next one will be better!
