Easy Origami Bat

page 1........page 2......page 3.....page 4

This little bat is a simple origami. It is fun for any age to make and it often fits with science lessons. It is also a good example to use to illustrate how cultures view things (like bats) differently and how that difference effects their art. I use it with 3rd grade. It is good for beginners of any age.

New to origami? Use any square, lightweight paper. Cheap printer paper is fine. My red bat is a small 3 inch sheet from a square note pad from Staples, while the yellow one is 8 1/2 inch square copier paper.

Look carefully at each picture.

BEFORE you try it look at the next picture to see what you are trying to do.

Fold square in half.
Use the voice recordings if you want extra tips.
They are here for my students (and for anyone who likes to hear things).

The video files use QuickTime. Download a plug-in for your browser ar Apple. If you are viewing this from a CD there is a QuickTime Installer included.

Hold down the edges hard!

They will move around if you don't.

Finger tips are too squashy to do a good job creasing the new fold.
Use something smooth and hard.

Fold it in half.

It will be a square again!

Sometimes the paper gets a lump in the corner and it will not fold neatly.

Put your finger inside and give it a BOP!

Crease the newest fold well.
