Curricula for Elementary School Art:
This is a curriculum that has been designed to insure all students in Manchester have a fully rounded art experience, with both hand/eye skill development and knowledge of traditional strategies for success balanced with growth in the child's understanding of art as an important form of communication, a historical document and an extremely variable and valuable opportunity for creative expression. A great deal of effort has gone into acquiring art reproductions that illustrate works of women and men of many cultures through time to support this goal.

FIRE PREVENTION, EVERYONE/EVERYDAY

Every fall the 4th and 5th grade students of Manchester create a fire safety poster to support the town's efforts to help Manchester families make their homes safer!

FIRE PREVENTION

EVERYONE / EVERYDAY

Children have to think about all the good advice they can share with others through their art work. In the process they become much better prepared to help their family.

News

Fall 2006:
Good news :-) Children will meet with an art teacher more times a school year starting this fall. The new schedule based on a 6 day plan allows for 2 art classes every six days, rather than 1 class every five days. Another plus in this new schedule is that students who previously got scheduled for a Monday class lost a significant number of meetings due to holidays. The new schedule hops over the days schools are expected not to meet, like Memorial Day. Unexpected no school days, like snow days, still wipe out your art class.

Yippee!!! All kindergarten children will start to receive art in the 2006/07 school year!

While some full day kindergarten classes have had art for some years, the 1/2 day children simply seemed to not have the time. Now that we have gone to a 6 day rotation schedule the 1/2 day students will have an art class once in that period. Full day students will meet with an art teacher twice in the 6 days.

These snow birds were done by a Nathan Hale kindergarten student.

General Interest News and Pictures:

  • Each school, starting in fall 2006, will have their own full time art teacher! Previously, art teachers covered at least two schools. Larger schools still may have an additional art teacher needed to cover all the classes, while small schools might still share their art teacher who has time to lend.
